Why anything is stored at all
Because the guest session has to survive the next page load.
Minichat TV signs you in quietly as a guest so that a call has an identity to attach to. That session has to be remembered between one request and the next, and the place browsers keep that sort of thing is a cookie. Without it, every page would treat you as a complete stranger and nothing would connect.
Cookies and similar browser storage are used for the three purposes below, and no others.
Keeping you signed in and secure
Essential. Blocking these breaks the site.
These handle authentication, session management and security. They are the ones that make the difference between a working call and a page that spins. If your browser rejects them, Minichat TV will not function — there is no degraded mode to fall back on.
Understanding how the site gets used
Performance. Anonymous usage data, and the site works without it.
These collect anonymous information about how visitors move through the platform — which pages get opened, which features get used. We may use a third-party measurement service such as Google Analytics for this. Blocking these costs you nothing in terms of using the site.
Remembering your settings
Functional. Language, display preferences, small conveniences.
These remember choices you have already made so you do not have to make them again — language setting, display options, that sort of thing. Blocking them means the site forgets your preferences each visit, which is annoying rather than fatal.
Storage that is not a cookie
Some of the same things live in your browser's local storage instead.
Browsers offer other ways to keep small amounts of data, and parts of the site use them for login state and preferences. Clearing site data in your browser clears these along with the cookies.
Turning it off
In your browser settings. There is no banner on this site to do it from.
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies for a specific site or for everything, and the instructions live in that browser's own help pages. Look for "cookies and site data" in settings, or use the padlock icon in the address bar for per-site controls.
We will say plainly that this site does not currently show a cookie banner, so the browser is where you make these choices. Bear in mind that blocking the essential ones stops the service working, which is a trade worth making deliberately rather than by accident.
What is collected and who it goes to is covered in the privacy policy.
